National APWU has provided USPS-created slides regarding USPS Network Modernization
The following two slides were created by the Postal Service and provided to various mailer (business) groups. The inclusion of the slide should not be taken as the APWU belief or agreement with the network modernization plans. It is merely for informational purposes - only for you to see what the Postal Service is telling their mailers.
There are four different types of facility designs:
Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC)
- All outgoing operations
- Destinating Parcels to the 5 digit
- Cross dock destinating 3 digit letters and flats
Local Processing Center (LPC)
- Letters and flats to DPS or carrier route
- Cross dock 5-digit parcels
Sorting and Delivery Center (S&DC)

- Cross dock to DU
Delivery Unit (DU)

There are going to be 60-65 Regional Processing and Distribution Centers (RPDC). The USPS has provided a map with the location of the RPDCs stating these locations are under review.
Omaha is currently designated to become a Regional Processing and Distribution Center.
Management has identified the first 12 RPDC locations. Omaha is not one of the first twelve.
Information will be provided when available.
