Labor Day Parade
Omaha Area Local to march - all members, friends and family encouraged to join!
On Monday, September 5, 2016, the Omaha Area Local will be marching in the annual Labor Day parade. The local will be proudly displaying the Omaha Area Local banner and our group will be one of the few in charge of marching with a huge balloon throughout the parade.
The Omaha Area Local will be handing out our NEW 2016 APWU t-shirts to all participants.
There will two teams for the parade. You can line up and march with the parade OR you can volunteer to be on the balloon team and handle the ballon while joining to march with the parade.
Balloon team: It takes 20 able bodied women and men to hold on to and march with the 'Macy' size balloon. Balloon team members will meet between 16th and 17th street - between Cass street and Chicago street at 9 am.
Parade team: The parade team is for everyone not on the balloon team! The Omaha Area Local will be marching and proudly displaying our banner. We will have candy to throw out to the crowd. Parade team members will meet east of 16th street between Burt and Mike Fahey at 10 am.
What to wear: Wear your NEW 2016 APWU Union t-shirts. The Union will be providing these t-shirts free to all participants.
What to bring:Wagons, dogs, pull behind coolers - most anything you would want to march with is ok.
There are 75 unions and participants marching in the parade. The Septemberfest Labor Day Parade Assembly Area map shows were all 75 participants line up. There will be plenty of parade marshals to assist in finding our spot.
The 75 unions and participants march, starting with #1 and ending with #75.
The Omaha Area Local is #57 in the parade order.
As the parade team is released and marches, the balloon team takes our balloon and merges with the parade team at the start line - 16th and Cass. From there we all march together until the end. We will march from 16th and Cass to 10th and Mike Fahey [approximately 1 mile].
Event Tent: The parade ends at 10th and Mike Fahey and we will march right into the tent where participants can enjoy free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and pop. Beer will cost $3. The local will hand out wristbands to those participating - one wristband will get an entire family into the post-parade picnic until 1:30 pm.
